Bruising Webcap (Cortinarius purpurascens)

Cap: 6-15cm Tawny with a purple tint. Initially concave with a clear cortina. Later expanding flat with a broad umbo.

Gills: Adnate. Violet becoming cinnamon/purple as the spore mature.

Stem: Solid, often with a swollen base. Pale violet. Bruises dark purple.

Spores: Rust

Flesh: Pale violet.

Habitat: On the ground in mixed woodland.

Frequency: Frequent

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Not Edible

Eating notes: Has been reported as being edible, but safer to avoid all Cortinarious species.
