Common Puffball (Lycoperdon perlatum)

Fruit body: 2-6cm. Initially white becoming yellow/brown as they age. Covered in small pyramidal spines.

Stem: 2-5cm White. Covered in small pyramidal spines.

Spores: Olive brown

Flesh: White and moist when young. Later powdery and cinnamon brown.

Habitat: On the ground in mixed woodland

Frequency: Very Common

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Edible

Eating notes: Edible, but has a somewhat spongy texture and little flavour.
