Fruit body: Pale brown to dark brown. Shape ovoid or rounded cone. Appearance of a 'sponge'. Hollow.

Stem: White to pale ochre.Often wider at the base. Hollow.

Spores: Ochre / yellow

Flesh: White to cream

Habitat: In open woodland or scrub land.

Frequency: Occasional

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Excellent

Eating notes: Requires careful cleaning to remove dirt caught in the pits of the cap.

Preserving: Dries easily.
