Oak Bolete (Boletus appendiculatus)

Cap: 8-16cm Variable in colour. May be anything from dusty orange to pale bay.

Stem: May be swollen (as with a Cep). Lemon yellow near the cap often darker lower down with some reddening.

Tubes: Lemon-yellow bruising faintly blue-green

Pores: Lemon-yellow. Becoming slightly ochre as the spores mature.

Spores: Walnut brown

Flesh: Pale yellow. Bluing slowly and faintly. May blush slightly in the stem base.

Habitat: On the ground with Oak.

Frequency: Occasional

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Good

Eating notes: Use as you would a Cep / Porcini

Preserving: Dries easily.
