Cap: 4-12cm Variable colour (dull greys, browns or blues). Convex at first later flattening. Sometime wavy, lobed, or splitting at the edges.

Gills: Heavily decurrent. White.

Stem: off-centre, lateral or absent.

Spores: Pale lilac

Flesh: White, not changing.

Habitat: In clusters on the stumps and trunks of deciduous trees

Frequency: Common

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Good

Eating notes: Widely used in oriental cooking.
