Cap: 8-20cm Pestle shaped. Pale buff at first, darker later. Covered in small spiny scales.

Spores: Purple-brown

Flesh: White when young, later powdery and brown (except in the base)

Habitat: On the ground in pasture or woodland

Frequency: Common

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Edible

Eating notes: Edible only when young and the flesh is white throughout.
