Cap: 6-18cm White with green-yellow flush. Covered with pointed warts, although these tend to fall off over time.

Fruit body: Swollen towards the base. Has a long buried tail. Lower section often covered with the remnants of the volva.

Gills: White, free.

Habitat: On the ground in mixed woodland. Prefers dry calcareous soils.
