Stump Puffball (Lycoperdon pyriforme)

Cap: 2-4cm across. Pear shaped. Cream, later brown.

Stem: Short, cream.

Spores: Olive-brown

Flesh: Initially white. Later brown and powdery in the top of the fruit body.

Habitat: In groups on dead wood.

Frequency: Very Common

Season:  Jan  Feb  Mar  Apr  May  Jun  Jul  Aug  Sep  Oct  Nov  Dec 

Edibility: Edible

Eating notes: Edible, but little flavour and spongy texture. Only pick young specimens where the flesh is white throughout.
